K9 Search: Putting it All Together in the Crime Scene Environment

This course will be instructed by Sonja Nordstrom, John Walker, Steve Warburton, Don Trusty, and Bill Dotson.  The student to instructor ratio will be low to allow for a great deal of individual attention in all phases of instruction.  The course will take the student through all phases of responding to a criminal search scene request with their dog. Through a combination of classroom and field work, students will learn how to work simulated crime scenes which mimic actual K9 search assignments in a variety of challenging environments and scenarios.  

Topics Covered:

  • How best to communicate with and inform LE of K9 best practices.

  • Protocols for working the scene.

  • Maintaining integrity of the scene.

  • Crime scene and evidence awareness.

  • Documentation of search results.

  • Sample language to be included in follow-up search warrants.

  • Mock testimony

Cost:  $325 per handler with dog; $150 per handler without dog.

Lunch will be included on site Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
